Dietary Therapy

Dietary TherapyDietary therapy is often the first line of defense in treating a disease according to the Tao, an ancient philosophy of living in harmony with Nature and “All That Is.”

Although primarily used in the prevention of disease, dietary therapy and nutrient supplementation in therapeutic dosages can be helpful in treating acute and chronic disease. “When the body is too weak, the therapist should use foods to replenish the deficit” according to the Su Wen, an ancient medical canon. The Western view of nutrition often focuses on analytical and quantitative categorization of foods into material components likes fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

However, the Eastern View follows qualitative and more holistic models concerning actual food energetics (yin and yang), thermal qualities and flavor in addition to the intrinsic constitution of the patient. Classical Chinese medical wisdom espouses that true health is not possible without knowledge of one’s proper diet. Establishing the proper relationship with food and food energetics also requires a sound and fluid understanding of one’s own body dynamics. Classical Chinese Medicine is both a medicine and a philosophy that supports patient autonomy and independence in empowering one to make dietary and nutrient choices that promote balanced and inspired living.

Hydrotherapy

WaterfallsWater is the universal substance and solvent in the human body and is an important vehicle for the treatment of pain.

Water therapy in its abundant forms serves to increase circulation (local and systemic) and to decrease congestion of blood and lymph. It helps to stimulate the bodies natural organs of elimination (aka “emuncotries” in Naturopathic Medicine): skin liver, kidneys, bowels and lung.

The definition of hydrotherapy can mean different things depending on context and experience; Doctor Loop has used hydrotherapy within the traditions of Naturopathic Medicine, Classical Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and Massage Therapy. Please see specific treatments under Ayurveda and Yoga as well as Massage Therapy for further clarification. Examples of hydrotherapy may include: usage of steam towels, herbal poultices, constitutional hydrotherapy (electrical stimulation with the addition of hot and cold towels), steam inhalation, body muds and steam, suggestion of mineral soaking baths or sitz baths. Doctor Loop is a firm believer in the power of water to heal, transmute and detoxify.
